I have windows 7 64 bit, Word and Word Word has the same layout as Word , which is why I bought it. I've given up on that and bought a Word And it's quite a shock after Word , which I've used for over ten years.
The main problem I'm having is with the document page background on the screen. I don't mean the text background on the page; I mean the background of the page against the wallpaper, if you like, that fills the screen. That background is white. But I'd like it to be as similar as possible to the Word page background. In Word the page rectangle is inside a blue rectangle which fits inside the screen.

If you are a business user and are willing to invest the time and effort to learn the new features then it could well be worth your while. Unfortunately, most businesses I know aren't that visionary.

Unfortunately, I've not been able to use it because I could not find a way to activate it, despite having what I have recently discovered was a valid product key. I spent two hours waiting in vain for a Microsoft tech person to remotely control my PC in order to activate the Word I know how to change the text background, in other words the page colour, to set it off against the white of the wallpaper, as I'm calling it.
You can insert screen shots using the Insert image button on the editor toolbar, but they are hardly needed since we're all familiar with the Word UI. I would be more concerned about your inability to install Word I have had indeed still do have Office installed on both Windows 7 and Windows 10 systems and have never had any difficulty activating it, but you might experience difficulty if your copy is an OEM version limited to the machine on which it was installed or was purchased as a Product Key Card, which can be used only once, on a single system, and isn't transferable.
Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. As regards the Word , it was bought in the form of an emailed product key together with a burn-to-disc file. They directed me to a remote pc control tech, but I got timed out or the connection was lost, at which point I gave up. I'd be interested to know whether more recent versions of Word, after , have a greater range of UI colour themes. That said, when I installed it on another pc first, to make sure it would not interfere with my Word , a copy of which was also on there, it opened without any red bar or pop up warning about not being activated.
I can install mine again from the disc, complete with red bar and warning, because it does seem to work, apart from the red bar distraction: perhaps I can paint it white.
I mention it because of what you said about versions later than not being an improvement with regard to UI dazzle. I think I'll check whether Microsoft have incorporated an international chain of opticians into its business plan. More likely they just hate their customers and want them to feel pain when they look at the Word UI when typing their complaints about Microsoft prior to posting them on the various forums. These are not sold for individual use but to large organizations. I don't have a version later than Word , but my sense is that Microsoft has kept draining color rather than adding it, though there is a very dark Black option that IMO is even worse than the glaring white. If you search Google Images, you can see what I'm talking about.
Barnhill's post on February 9, Hi Suzanne. Thanks for your reply. Yes, I feared as much. If you installed it on another PC first, and it was good for only one install, that might be the problem. You might be able to activate it by phone, deactivating the install on the previous PC.
I sympathize. I'm actually still using Word for most of my work, but, of the Ribbon versions, I prefer Word , for a number of reasons, the UI being just one of them. Thanks Suzanne, I'll try it again, but over the phone this time. By the way, I posted yesterday about a workaround for the Word UI glare problem. It works but it takes too long if it needs to be done every time a document is opened.
In reply to laurencewithau's post on February 11, Yes, I saw that thread. That seems very cumbersome. Perhaps a glare screen for the monitor? Barnhill's post on February 11, I never thought of that, but in fact this monitor does have a very bright display setting. I'll look at the manual to see if I can tone it down a bit.
Thanks very much for all your help. I'll try again with MS Help, to get them to use remote access on my PC in order to activate the item.
